About Anita
I'm Anita Stokoe, an EMDR therapist and UK Registered Mental Health Nurse (RNMH) based in Hexham, Northumberland. I'm an accredited member of EMDR UK, and I bring both clinical expertise and genuine warmth to every session.
My background in mental health nursing means I understand how anxiety, fear and difficult experiences affect every part of a person's life — not just their mental state, but their relationships, their confidence, and their sense of who they are.
I set up Clear Path Therapies because I believe effective therapy should feel accessible, not intimidating. Whatever you're carrying, you don't have to keep carrying it alone.
Understanding the Approach
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing — EMDR — is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps your brain process distressing memories and experiences that have become stuck.
Recommended by NICE and the World Health Organisation for the treatment of trauma and anxiety-related conditions.
Many people experience significant, lasting improvement in a relatively small number of sessions compared to traditional talking therapies.
You don't need to describe traumatic events in detail for EMDR to work. It works with the brain's own processing system — at a pace that's right for you.
It's not about talking through your past in exhaustive detail. It's about freeing yourself from it — so you can get on with living the life you want.
Services
I work with adults experiencing a wide range of anxiety-related difficulties. If something is stopping you from living the life you want, there's a good chance I can help.
Flying, needles, dentists, driving — specific phobias feel overwhelming but are highly treatable with EMDR.
Persistent worry about health, accompanied by repeated checking or seeking reassurance.
Fear of failure or blanking under pressure that stops you performing at your best.
A persistent sense of worry or dread without one clear cause — exhausting to live with and very treatable.
Whether recent or long-standing, EMDR can help your brain process what happened so you can move forward.
The Process
There's no pressure and no commitment at the outset. Here's what the journey typically looks like.
We start with a relaxed, no-pressure conversation so I can understand what you're experiencing and you can ask any questions. There's no commitment at this stage.
If we decide to work together, I'll take time to understand your background and what you'd like to achieve. We'll agree a plan at a pace that feels manageable.
Sessions typically last [50 minutes] and take place [in person in Hexham / online / both]. Most people find that significant progress is possible within a focused course of sessions.
Coaching Services
Alongside EMDR therapy, I offer specialist coaching in two areas where I have particular expertise — and where the right support can make a profound difference.
Living with ADHD as an adult can feel like constantly working against yourself — struggling with focus, organisation, time, and a sense that you're not meeting your own potential. ADHD coaching is practical, forward-focused support that helps you build strategies that actually fit your life.
The menopause transition affects far more than most people expect — mood, memory, confidence, sleep, relationships and identity can all be impacted. Menopause coaching offers a space to make sense of what you're experiencing, and practical support to navigate it with confidence.
